Roger Federer was born on the 8th of August 1981 in Basel, Switzerland. His father, Robert Federer, is of Swiss origin and his mother Lynette de Rand is South African.
Federer showed an apparent interest in sports from an early age, playing tennis and soccer at the age of 8. When he was 11 years old, he was one of the three best emerging tennis players in Switzerland.
